Obviously, I don't update this blog very much. However, I need a place to note my different quests in cooking and eating. Hopefully, I will start updating this more as either I cook or eat some good meals. I will start with giving an update on a BBQ team that some friends and I started. Future posts should have more details on how things were cooked.
Last year, a few friends and I started our own BBQ team called "Meat, Drink, and be Merry." We entered the annual Memphis In May (MIM) BBQ contest, which is somewhat more of a party than a BBQ contest. For the past few years, many of us were part of another team at MIM called "Magically Piglicious." We had such a great time, we started are own team where I get to be the head cook.
I will try and keep this short. After months of planning and I think 5 test cooks, we started the contest. During the four day competition, we entered a few different contests including chicken, seafood, sauce, and our main entree . . . ribs. We also fed a number of friends and family members, plus around 50 sales reps from my company that were in town for training. After it was all said and done, we ended up placing 93rd (out of ~115) in ribs. Of course, we would have like to have placed higher, but we still had a blast. We did place 16th in sauce out of 120. We were very proud of that. Especially considering, we made it on the spot about 30 minutes before having to turn it in. Secret ingredient: Jack Daniels.
